Acai berry comes from the Acai palm, usually found in the South American region. Acai palm is found in abundance in watery areas like swamps or flood plains but can also thrive in places other than watery areas; but, having non water vegetation may hinder their development resulting in a decreased fruit bearing capacity. What is most popular about the acai palm is its derivative, the Acai fruit juice.

Acai fruit juice is the product of the berry harvested from the acai palm. Acai fruit juice is taken from the pulp that surrounds the large seed of the acai berry. The fruit, which is about an inch in diameter, is made up mostly of the seed, which is not edible. The part that surrounds the seed is main source of the extract used in the acai fruit juice. Locals from the South American region sometimes eat the pulp from which the acai fruit juice is extracted. Both the juice and the pulp are usually used as a main ingredient for smoothies, juices, shakes and other beverages in South America where the acai palm is abundant.
